|Also called Auricular Acupuncture or Ear Acupuncture.
Acupuncture is quite simply acupuncture on the ear. There are
approximately 200 acupuncture points on the outer ear which correspond
to acupuncture points on the body, such as the heart, lungs, liver,
nose, eyes, shoulders, knees etc. The ear points are on the outer ear,
the fleshy cartilage, needles are never inserted within the inner ear.
Acupuncture can be effective in treating many complaints and conditions
including mental and emotional problems such as anxiety, depression,
and insomnia. The physical conditions treated include arthritis, back
pain, migraine, headache, tendonitis and sciatica to name only a few.
It is also used to treat digestive problems, for weight control,
obesity, hayfever, asthma and menstrual problems.
Acupuncture is becoming increasingly popular in the treatment of
addictions, especially drugs, alcohol and smoking. The treatment
protocol for addictions consists of just 5 minute needles inserted into
5 specific points on each ear and left in for up to 40 minutes. The
severity of the addiction will determine the amount of treatments
required, usually a minimum of 6 treatments is required.
